International Flag Parade Kicks Off JCS International Celebration

"A symbol of not just a country, but a legacy."
February 26th marked the beginning of The John Cooper School’s International Celebration, a campus-wide series of events that provide students with opportunities to learn about different cultures around the world.

The International Flag Parade kicked off the Celebration where upper school students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to carry their country’s flag and dress in traditional wear. The John Cooper School’s diverse student body consists of representatives from more than 48 nations worldwide. After a successful parade filled with cheering and excitement for their peers, the students feasted on traditional, delicious food from all over the world provided by our Cooper parents and community. A huge thank you to our Cooper parents, faculty, staff, and community for providing such an enriching experience for our Upper School students!

Marivi Mata, Upper School World Languages Department Chair, shared some words about what this event means to the Cooper community:

“Cooper is a vibrant tapestry of diversity, where every thread contributes to the richness of our community. The International Festival embodies our spirit of inclusivity, offering a platform for students to proudly showcase their heritage through the colorful mosaic of the flag parade. As each student showcases a flag and their traditional attire with pride, it symbolizes not just a country, but a story, a tradition, and a legacy.

In this celebration of cultural exchange, students and their families stand as ambassadors, sharing the treasures of their ancestry with enthusiasm and joy. The festival becomes a living classroom, where learning transcends textbooks, and understanding blossoms through shared experiences.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the families who generously impart their cultural wisdom and food, enriching the tapestry of our learning environment. Together, we celebrate unity in diversity, fostering an environment where every voice is heard, every tradition honored, and every heritage cherished.”
