Hands-On Service: Habitat Workday

A day of service and gratitude!
This past Saturday, the John Cooper School community came together for a meaningful Habitat Project workday, during which the Cooper community volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, to help build homes and improve lives. Upper School students and alumni applied caulk to the interior of the 25th House that John Built.

As December’s theme is gratitude, this Habitat Project workday offered the perfect opportunity to express thankfulness by giving back. Through their efforts and commitment to service, Cooper students and the community demonstrated appreciation not only for what they have, but also for the chance to help others. It was a reminder of how small actions can create a ripple effect of kindness and positive change.

“Our Habitat Project workdays are a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together in service to others,” said Samir Muhith, Habitat Project Faculty Sponsor. “It’s a beautiful example of how gratitude, community, and giving back are at the heart of what we do at The John Cooper School.”

By rolling up their sleeves and helping build homes for those in need, Cooper students not only learn the value of hard work and compassion but also gain a deeper sense of responsibility to the world around them. It’s these experiences that shape our students into the thoughtful, service-minded leaders we aspire to cultivate at Cooper.

Through service projects like this, students put their learning into action and contribute to their community. This experience reflects our core values of responsibility, teamwork, and service to others, all of which are central to the School's educational philosophy.
