4th Graders Explore Texas History

Igniting curiosity and deepening historical understanding
The fourth-grade class embarked on an exciting field trip to the Sam Houston Museum and Monument in Huntsville, Texas, where they explored the life and legacy of one of Texas’ most influential leaders!

As they wandered through exhibits filled with artifacts, letters, and historical documents, students gained a deeper understanding of Sam Houston’s role in Texas history. They stood in awe before the towering 67-foot statue of Houston, imagining what it must have been like to lead the Texas Army to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. The field trip wasn’t just about facts and dates—it was about bringing history to life, fostering curiosity, and encouraging students to connect with the past in a meaningful way.
Beyond the academic lessons, the trip was also a chance for students to bond with their classmates, share discoveries, and engage in hands-on learning experiences. From exploring the museum's interactive exhibits to walking the scenic trails surrounding the monument, students expanded their minds and deepened their appreciation for Texas heritage.
“Field trips like these are more than just a day away from school—they inspire young minds to ask questions, think critically, and see history as a story they are a part of. With new knowledge and shared memories, the students returned home with a greater sense of appreciation for the past and excitement for future adventures in learning,” said Ms. Rigia, Lower School History Teacher.
