At The John Cooper School, we empower our students to be changemakers, using their voices and ideas to drive meaningful impact. The Student Advocacy Symposium for ninth-grade English students brought this mission to life, as they showcased leadership and service by presenting innovative solutions to real-world challenges with purpose and passion.
Aligned with The John Cooper School’s mission to develop critical thinkers, responsible leaders, and lifelong learners, students showcased projects that addressed pressing social, environmental, and global challenges. Through intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and leadership, they demonstrated their commitment to excellence, integrity, and service—core values that define the Cooper community.
The symposium allowed students to engage with both faculty and peers, refining their advocacy skills and receiving valuable feedback to strengthen their initiatives. Teachers, some attending individually and others bringing their classes, supported students as they articulated their vision for meaningful change.
"Our students have been diligently researching, brainstorming, and crafting solutions to address real-world issues they are passionate about. This symposium serves as a platform for them to showcase their innovative ideas and demonstrate their commitment to positively impacting our community," said Ms. Brette Book, Upper School English Department Chair.
This event exemplified Cooper’s commitment to developing students who not only strive for academic excellence but also engage with the world thoughtfully, responsibly, and with a purpose-driven mindset. By applying their knowledge in a real-world context, these students exemplified what it means to be leaders of character, poised to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
A heartfelt thank you to all who attended and contributed to the success of this symposium—your encouragement and insight helped inspire the next generation of changemakers!
